Birds Flying High: A Refurbishment Residential Interior by Jun-Bin Huang

Maximizing Living Contentment for the Younger Generation

The Birds Flying High design by Jun-Bin Huang is a residential interior project that aims to maximize the living contentment for the younger generation. Inspired by the name of the host HSIANG, meaning flying high in Mandarin, this design is a blessing to the offspring with great success. From the curvy ceiling design to the lamp on the dining room, curves resembling wings and airflows can be seen throughout the space. The bedroom is adorned with flying-themed wallpaper and two gigantic paintings of birds, bringing vitality to the grey-toned room.

The core concept of the Birds Flying High design is to create a long-lasting and adaptive space for the younger generation, who are expected to grow up and become the heirs of this property. The design features indirect illumination, detailed selection of materials, and flexible furnishing, resulting in a house filled with thoughtful details and warm blessings for the young ones.

The realization of this design takes into account the well-being of children. The interior is painted with Benjamin Moore zero VOC paint in the 2019 color trend palette, ensuring a safe environment for those with allergies. The furniture is detachable, repairable, and movable, allowing for easy adaptation as children grow. This design approach maximizes the space for activities and ensures the longevity of the design.

The Birds Flying High design spans 149 sqm and includes a master bedroom, a kid bedroom, a guestroom, a living room, a dining room, a kitchen, two bathrooms, and a balcony. The space is designed to provide comfort, flexibility, and functionality for the entire family.

Through the reduction of traditional lighting fixtures, such as recessed lights and track lights, the Birds Flying High design prioritizes comfort and relaxation. Indirect lighting, such as wall lamps and strip lights, creates a pleasant ambiance throughout the space. Linear tracks of light are strategically placed as directional hints for guests to navigate the space. The design also includes widened doorways and hallways, allowing children to move freely. The living room is equipped with a home cinema and projector, providing a space for family movie time.

The Birds Flying High design was completed in October 2019 in Taipei City, Taiwan. The layout of the space was conceived with the principles of Feng shui in mind. The restructure of the layout was aimed at maximizing the positive energy flow and creating an environment conducive to success. Challenges during the design process included the reconfiguration of the layout and the rerouting of pipelines. However, these obstacles were overcome to create a harmonious and functional space.

The Birds Flying High design is a private residential refurbishment project that combines the perspectives of Feng shui, the owner's blessing to their children, and the love of the family. It incorporates visual guidance techniques often seen in commercial spaces, creating an intuitive playground for young ones to explore. This design was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2020, recognizing its outstanding creativity and ingenious design that contributes to improving the quality of life.
